It is not only inspectors that have witnessed the transformation. Most importantly, pupils were reported to ‘recognise that the school has improved in recent years’ and said to be ‘positive about the education they receive’. The report highlights several key areas of strength including the quality of education. The report states that ‘all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), benefit from a well-planned and ambitious curriculum’ as well as noting that external examination results have improved.

Inspectors observed that the school has worked hard to develop the curriculum in recent years: ‘All pupils learn a broad range of subjects in key stage 3 that meet the requirements of the national curriculum. At key stage 4, pupils choose from a wide range of academic and vocational courses’. Specialist staff were commended for their exemplary subject knowledge and teaching practices with the report noting that they ‘explain concepts clearly and design tasks that support pupils to gain knowledge and practise skills’. Then adding, ‘in the majority of lessons, staff question pupils skillfully to identify misconceptions or challenge pupils to think more deeply’.

The report also highlighted the school’s effective support for pupils with SEND and those who speak English as an additional language. ‘Pupils with SEND, and those who speak English as an additional language, access the same curriculum as their peers’, the report affirmed. ‘The school identifies when pupils need extra support effectively, ensuring every student receives the necessary assistance to succeed.’

A positive school culture and effective behaviour management policies were also praised. The report said: ‘There are very high expectations for pupils’ behaviour at the school’ and ‘pupils respond well’. Any incidents of bullying or poor behaviour are ‘dealt with quickly by staff’.

Ofsted acknowledged the invaluable support provided by Greenwood Academies Trust, stating: ‘The school has been well supported by the multi-academy trust to improve all areas of the school’s provision in recent years.’

Todd Johnson, Executive Principal, expressed his gratitude for the recognition.
